Three years ago, the Dallas Cowboys signed Dak Prescott to a four-year, $160 million contract extension. Now, the Cowboys’ starting quarterback is entering the final year of his contract, and both sides have made no indications of moving on from one another.
Yet, for whatever reason, the Cowboys haven’t been able to get Prescott to sign on the dotted line. Or, perhaps it’s Prescott’s camp that’s drawing a line in the sand during negotiations.
But Prescott’s latest comments indicate that if there has been a snag, it’s not coming from him.

Dak Prescott will turn 31 years old before the 2024 season kicks off. He’s a three-time Pro Bowl QB coming off his first second-team All-Pro honor. But he’s just 2-5 as a starter during the playoffs.
Still, Prescott has proven capable of playing at an elite level. Just last year, he was in the driver’s seat to win the MVP award before seeing Lamar Jackson heat up ahead of the postseason. Still, Prescott finished second in MVP voting. He also led the Cowboys to the highest-scoring offense in the NFL.
Yet, the Cowboys and Prescott, or more accurately, his agent, haven’t been able to agree on contract value thus far. But the Cowboys QB indicates the issue doesn’t have to do with money, at least not for him.
“I don’t play for money. Never have never cared for it, to be honest with you, yeah. Would give it up just to play this game. So, I allow that to the business people to say what it’s worth, what they’re supposed to give a quarterback of my play, a person of my play, a leader of my play. For me, it’s about, as I said, control what I can control and handle that part and the rest will take care of itself.”

Prescott ranks as the 13th-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL today. But once, or if he signs a new extension before the season kicks off, expect Prescott’s new contract to rank in the top three highest-paid QBs in 2024. He’s currently set to earn $34 million in cash this upcoming season and has collected $162 million in career earnings.
