The Connecticut Sun continued their hot start to the 2021 WNBA season with a 72-65 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. As a result of the Chicago Sky’s loss to the New York Liberty, the Sun are now the WNBA’s lone undefeated team, improving their record to 5-0.

The Sun were led by DeWanna Bonner who finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Jonquel Jones recorded 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals while Brionna Jones also scored 19 points adding five rebounds and four assists.

The Sun’s win comes despite the fact that their bench did not contribute a single point in the game while shooting a combined 0-for-7 from the field.

A’Ja Wilson had an off-shooting night, finishing with just 14 points on 31% shooting while adding seven rebounds. Chelsea Gray had 13 points and five assists. Dearica Hamby came off the bench to add 12 points, and Liz Cambage posted 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Connecticut Sun remain undefeated

After a hot start by the Sun in the first quarter, leading 18-8 at the end of the period, the Aces went on a 13-2 run through the first six minutes of the second quarter to take their first lead of the game. The Aces ended the first half leading 33-27.

The Sun snatched back the momentum in the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Aces 23-10 in the period en route to taking a lead they would not relinquish. This included a three-minute stretch where they went on a 17-0 scoring run to go from down six points to leading by 11.

At 5-0, the Connecticut Sun have equaled their best start in franchise history (2018). They are also halfway to matching their win total from the previous season that saw them finish with a 10-12 record.

The Sun will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive and set a new franchise record for wins to start a season on Tuesday when they face the reigning WNBA champion Seattle Storm.
