The Chicago Bears are just over two months away from officially being forced to make one of their biggest decisions in franchise history with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But many insiders expect the Bears to come to a conclusion regarding their quarterback future much sooner than late April.

The expectation is for trade discussions relating to Justin Fields to heat up during the NFL Scouting Combine, when GMs are in close contact with one another while evaluating college prospects. Yet, as far as the public is concerned, nothing has been set in stone, but that doesn’t mean there’s any internal debate in Chicago’s front office.

Everyone is curious to see how the Chicago Bears handle their QB situation this offseason. Signs point to Caleb Williams becoming the No. 1 overall pick, with Justin Fields shipped to a new team. Yet, until Fields is actually traded, speculation will continue to mount.

However, internally, the Bears seem to have made up their minds; at least, that’s how local team reporter Brad Biggs views things. Here was his response when asked if the Bears have made a decision yet.

“I sincerely doubt anything has been firmly decided at this point, but I’d be surprised if the Bears don’t use the No. 1 pick on a quarterback and I’d be stunned if they made a small trade down (say to between No. 2 and No. 4) and then didn’t take a quarterback. From my perspective, there is no internal debate in which the Bears are kicking around the idea of keeping Justin Fields versus drafting a quarterback. I believe the work being done is to determine which quarterback they should select. So the whole Fields versus Caleb Williams debate is a pointless exercise.”

It may be a pointless exercise, but that’s just where we are in the offseason, speculating about what could be. While we may not know what the Bears will decide, having the Fields vs. Caleb Williams debate is still a fun exercise, and it’s one that’s unlikely to end until a final decision is made.
