Has there been any team made a bigger splash than the Chicago Bears this offseason? Their additions have many football analysts buying into the idea of Caleb Williams leading Chicago back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
In addition to hiring Ben Johnson, the Bears have supplied their first-year head coach with what appears to be a drastically improved roster compared to the version Matt Eberflus was working with. The Bears have added two Pro Bowlers and even an All-Pro to the roster, but they reportedly nearly added yet another Pro Bowl player to their collection of talent this offseason.

Chicago Bears reportedly were open to signing Kareem Hunt

Barring the selection of Ashton Jeanty in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears appear set to return with D’Andre Swift as their starting running back next season. Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer are set to compete for a backup role, but the Bears have also expressed an interest in adding another highly accomplished runner to the backfield this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Bears were also another option for Kareem Hunt in free agency, prior to his re-signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bears had an in with Hunt, thanks to his close connection with former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who now operates as Chicago’s RB coach.
Yet, perhaps the idea of returning to where his career started was too good of an opportunity for the former Pro Bowl running back to pass up on. The Bears have since signed Homer, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still interested in adding more talent to their backfield.
