Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields leaves game to injury, Andy Dalton replaces him

Rookie quarterbwack Justin Fields and his Chicago Bears didn’t do anything of substance in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Lamar Jackson-less Baltimore Ravens.

Chicago found itself down 6-0 at the half with Fields struggling to the tune of 4-of-11 passing for 79 yards with a lost fumble.

Still dowwn 6-0 about midway through the third quarter, Justin Fields exited with what’s being described as a rib injury. He was initially listed as questionable to return and was replaced under center by veteran Andy Dalton.

In pretty shocking fashion, Dalton would go on to connect with Darnell Mooney for a 60-yard touchdown on just his second pass of the game to give Chicago a 7-6 lead.

The No. 11 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, Fields took over for Dalton as Chicago’s starting quarterbwack back in Week 3 and has not given it up since. He’s 2-5 in those seven starts.

It’s not yet known how serious the Fields injury is. What we do know is that he should be under center moving forward on the season should the rookie be healthy. At 3-6, Chicago is out of playoff positioning. Playing a youngster in Justin Fields over Dalton makes the most sense for embattled head coach Matt Nagy.
