11 PM ET – Georgia is back-to-back champs
The Bulldogs are the first team in the playoff era to win consecutive CFP National Championship Games. It’s a fitting conclusion for one of the best teams in college football history. Georgia was the best team in the nation all year and this blowout win is just the latest example. While plenty of Bulldogs are headed to the NFL, it would be a surprise if Georgia isn’t in the CFP Semifinal next season.
10:45 PM ET – Georgia Bulldogs backups outscore TCU
Smart put his backups in to begin the fourth quarter and they outscored TCU within eight minutes. Fair to say that perfectly sums up this game. Maybe the Bulldogs’ starters and backups each deserve their own championship trophy.
10:28 PM ET – Georgia puts the puppies in
After taking a 52-7 lead into the fourth quarter, Georgia coach Kirby Smart pulled Stetson Bennett and his seniors. It’s giving the Bulldog faithful at SoFi Stadium an opportunity to thank everyone who delivered two national championships for the program. More importantly, at least for the 2023 Georgia team, the young Bulldogs are now in the game. They’ll probably outscore TCU, too.
10:10 PM ET – It continues
Secretariat thinks Georgia is beating its opponents by too wide of a margin. McConkey found the end zone again and Bennett is up to six total touchdowns , while the Bulldogs’ offense has 335 more total yards than TCU.
9:50 PM ET – How many points will Georgia score?
Congrats to TCU for recording a defensive stop to open the third quarter, we’ll consider it one of their few highlights of the game. After getting the football back minutes later, Georgia scored another touchdown as Brock Bowers adds to his monster performance. Leading 45-7 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter, Georgia can easily crack 60.
9:15 PM ET – What does cooked horned frog taste like?
Six drives and six scores for Georgia, now with a stellar touchdown catch by 6-foot-4 sophomore Adonai Mitchell, who entered tonight with eight receptions this season. The Bulldogs now lead 38-7 in a game that seemed over late in the first quarter. Genuinely, it might be more interesting to know what a cooked horned frog tastes like instead of seeing another half of this.
8:49 PM ET – Duggan digs a deeper hole for TCU
It turns out, facing a top-five defense isn’t an easy task. Duggan hasn’t looked anything like the player who helped the Horned Frogs cruise to a 13-1 record against Georgia. As they say, there is no 17-point play, but Duggan’s playing like he’s trying to erase TCU’s mounting deficit by forcing mistakes on a massive scale. 8:42 PM ET – Sneaky Stetson
We’ve got a “sneaky athletic” reference and it’s not even midway through the second quarter. After evading a sack and then running for a big gain, ESPN talked about Bennett’s sneaky athleticism. He showed it off a few plays later, taking it on a keeper for the second rushing touchdown of the half. Needless to say, Bennett is on his way to MVP. — Matt Johnson
8:22 PM ET – Ladd McConkey is back!
After being limited by an injury in the Peach Bowl (2 catches, -1 yard), sophomore wide receiver Ladd McConkey is back in his role as a focal point of Georgia’s offense. Despite playing through an MCL sprain and bone bruise, McKonkey turned three receptions into 59 yards, being left wide open in the end zone to make it a two-score game. — Matt Johnson
8:16 PM ET – Derius Davis totally redeems himself
Just minutes after Davis coughed up a TCU possession, he hauled in a 60-yard bomb from Max Duggan. No doubt worried about potential first-round receiver Quentin Johnston breaking loose, somehow Davis was left all alone for the big gain. He then put his dance moves to the test, deking out a Georgia defender to pick up a few more yards. Davis’ spark was all the Horned Frogs needed, leading to a two-yard rushing touchdown by Duggan to climb back in the game. — Andrew Buller-Russ
8:10 PM ET – Georgia takes advantage of short field to go up two scores
Getting the ball at their own 33 with a one-touchdown lead, Georgia kept things simple. Brock Bowers got another touch, toting the rock for a five-yard gain before Ladd McConkey’s 15-yard catch got the Bulldogs within striking distance at the TCU 13. But Stetson Bennett couldn’t get anything going in the red zone, leading to a 24-yard field goal from Jack Podlesny. — Andrew Buller-Russ
8:01 PM ET – Max Duggan, TCU offense under fire
Given his first chance to respond to Georgia’s early lead, Heisman runner-up Max Duggan failed miserably. It all began with Duggan getting dropped for a six-yard loss on their first play from scrimmage. Already behind the sticks, their next attempt came up short, with a two-yard gain on a pass to Derius Davis. Ultimately the drive ended with a failed end-around by Davis, where the Georgia defense proved too quick and too ferocious, leading to a fumble recovery by Javon Bullard. It’s shaping up to be a long day for the Horned Frogs. — Andrew Buller-Russ
7:54 PM ET – Stetson Bennett strikes early
Stetson Bennett is making his mark early. After completing two passes to Brock Bowers (33 yards), Georgia’s super senior fooled TCU on a keeper and hustled his way 21 yards into the end zone. Few likely predicted Bennett would run for the first touchdown in the championship game, but betting on the longshot is a fitting outcome in Bennett’s final game. — Matt Johnson
7:30 PM ET – The band is out on the field!
It seemed suspicious when ESPN listed kickoff time at 7:30, considering that would be 4:30 local time with many in California still at work or stuck in traffic. Kickoff time arrived and the band was out on the field. Bravo to this strategy to boost ratings for the pre-game show. — Matt Johnson
6:00 PM ET – Where is Uga?
Less than 90 minutes until the action begins and the biggest game in college football this season now feels ruined. Uga, Georgia’s incredible bulldog who deserves all the treats and belly rubs, isn’t at SoFi Stadium tonight. Uga’s human, Charles Seiler, told the AJC, that it was too long of a flight for the wonderful pup to make it. — Matt Johnson

2023 NFL Draft spotlight
While neither Max Duggan nor Stetson Bennett is viewed as future starting quarterbacks in the NFL, there are plenty of players taking the field on Monday who fans will see at the next level and will become very familiar with leading up to the NFL Draft.
Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter is the best player on the field Monday and is a projected top-three pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He’ll be on the field at the same time as TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston, the No. 1 receiver in the 2023 draft class and a projected top-15 pick.
Looking to the future, Bulldogs’ tight end Brock Bowers will be one of the best prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Georgia also boasts future starting-caliber NFL players in its secondary. Unfortunately, injuries will likely sideline tight end Darnell Washington, while edge rusher Nolan Smith has been out since November with a torn pec.
TCU and Georgia championship history
TCU has won two national championships in football history, but its last title came long before the playoff system. When the Horned Frogs won their claimed national titles in 1935 and 1938, World War III still hadn’t happened yet.

No team has ever won the CFP Championship Game in consecutive years. Going back further, USC (2003-’04) and Nebraska (1994-’95) are the only schools to win back-to-back national titles since 1990. It’s a historic opportunity for Georgia, who can cement its status as one of the best college football teams ever.
