Carolina Panthers to part ways with starting safety Tre Boston

The Carolina Panthers plan to release starting safety Tre Boston, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Boston officially won’t be released by the team until closer to the new league year, which begins on March 17.

Boston, 28, has two seasons remaining on the three-year, $18 million deal he signed with the club last March.

He recorded 95 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception in 16 games last season with the Panthers.

Boston has collected 429 tackles, 15 interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 104 games (76 starts) with Carolina (2014-16, 2019-20), Los Angeles Chargers (2017) and Arizona Cardinals (2018). He was selected by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
