The Buffalo Sabres traded defenseman Brandon Montour to the Florida Panthers on Saturday in exchange for a third-round draft pick, multiple outlets reported.
“Fresh start. Super excited to finish off strong,” Montour told The Athletic via text message.
Montour, who turns 27 on Sunday, has 14 points (five goals, nine assists) and 24 penalty minutes in 38 games this season.
A second-round pick by Anaheim in 2014, Montour has 105 career points (29 goals, 76 assists) in 281 games with the Ducks (2016-19) and Sabres.
The NHL trade deadline is Monday at 3 p.m. ET.
The Sabres (9-25-6) entered Saturday’s action with the worst record in the NHL while the Panthers (26-11-4) were just one point behind the Central Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes.
