A new rumor suggests the Brooklyn Nets could jump into the trade chase for Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray before today’s NBA trade deadline.

After a solid start to the season where Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas seemed like they might be a dynamic duo for the team, the Brooklyn Nets have quickly fallen down the NBA standings over the last month. Heading into their clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, they are 10 games under .500 and a game and a half out of the final Play-In Tournament spot.

While there have been reports of playoff contenders being willing to give up a horde of draft picks for Bridges, and interest in several key players from the rotation, the Nets aren’t necessarily in sell mode ahead of today’s trade deadline. Actually, it seems like they could be in the hunt to make a blockbuster trade to add a star player before 3 PM ET.

On Wednesday night, Phly Sports NBA reporter Kyle Neubeck claimed “The Brooklyn Nets are said to be monitoring the Dejounte Murray situation and could emerge as a suitor for the Hawks guard, per one source.”

Despite there being a lot of interest in Murray from around the league, including from the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, the reported asking price of at least two first-round picks has made most teams balk at making a deal with the Atlanta Hawks.

While the Brooklyn Nets don’t have a first-round pick in 2025, they have all of their others through 2030, including extra opening-round picks in 2027 and 2029 that would hold value to many teams, including the Hawks.

Brooklyn also has players on the roster that could appeal to Atlanta in a potential trade. With the Nets unlikely to draw stars in free agency after the team’s recent drama, the idea for the organization may be to trade for an All-Star level player to pair up with Bridges for the foreseeable future.
