The Kansas City Chiefs took the NFL storm in recent years, winning two Super Bowls with Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. If the team doesn’t hoist the Lombardi Trophy this year, however, Brett Favre believes he knows who will get the blame.
Kelce, 34, began dating Swift early in the 2023 NFL season. The billionaire performer attended multiplied Chiefs’ games, both home and away, drawing the focus of media and cameras each time. While a majority of NFL analysts and programming have focused on what the Chiefs are doing on the field, Swift’s relationship with Kelce has provided headlines for others.

The focus on Swift and Kelce has done wonders for both celebrities. Kelce’s New Heights podcast was one of the most popular podcasts in 2023. The relationship has also dramatically boosted Kelce’s jersey sales while increasing Swift’s reach to a new audience. However, not everyone believes it will be viewed as a positive.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Favre suggested that Swift’s presence and the media attention around her relationship with Kelce could be a distraction. If the Chiefs are ultimately eliminated from the NFL playoffs, the Hall of Fame quarterback thinks Swift could receive some blame.
“I think it’ll be a distraction if they don’t make it to the Super Bowl. If they don’t win it or get to the Super Bowl, people are going to say, That’s why.’
Brett Favre on the Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift relationship
Favre does have a point regarding fans’ willingness to blame a romantic partner for an athlete’s struggles. When Aaron Rodgers dated Olivia Munn, Shailene Woodley and Danica Patrick, fans blamed them for Rodgers’ on-field struggles.

It’s also worth noting that Favre doesn’t necessarily believe it will even be an issue for the Chiefs. As he told TMZ, he believes Kansas City is “going all the way” and has a legitimate chance to win a third Super Bowl with Mahomes, Kelce and Andy Reid.
If the Chiefs are knocked out of the playoffs and any fans start blaming Swift for the team’s poor performance, it’s safe to assume Kelce will use his platform on the New Heights podcast to strongly push back against the criticism.
