It was earlier on Sunday that the Atlanta Falcons surprisingly announced star wide receiver Calvin Ridley would be inactive as he deals with personal issues.

As his Falcons were taking on the Carolina Panthers Sunday afternoon, Ridley took to social media to explain why he was not on the field. In the process, the star pass-catcher announced that he’s stepping away from football to focus on his mental well being.

“These past few weeks have been very challenging and as much as I’d like to be on the field competing with my teammates, I need to step away from football at this time to focus on my mental well being. This will help me be the best version of myself now and in the future,” Calvin Ridley posted on Twitter. “I want to thank my teammates, the entire Atlanta Falcons organization, our great fans, my friends, and my family for all o ftheir support during this time.”

Remember, Ridley sat out Atlanta’s Week 5 win over the New York Jets in London, citing a personal issue for his absence across the pond. He did play last week against the Dolphins, catching four passes for 26 yards and a touchdown.

A first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2018, the 26-year-old Ridley took over as Atlanta’s No. 1 receiver following an off-season trade of Julio Jones. The Alabama product produced 90 receptions for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns a season ago.

Obviously, we’re not going to speculate what is happening in Ridley’s personal life. However, we do wish him the best as he works things out.
