A year ago the Miami Dolphins identified their secondary as an area of weakness, so the front office somehow acquired one of, if not the most accomplished cornerback in the NFL today by trading for Jalen Ramsey.

Ramsey’s season was marred by injuries, with the three-time All-Pro only playing 10 games last season, but new Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver still says the team wasn’t taking full advantage of their talented cornerback’s skillset.

Last year, the Miami Dolphins entrusted Vic Fangio with defensive coordinator duties, but once the season was over, both sides. agreed to part ways. Now, it’s former NFL defensive lineman Anthony Weaver who’s been tasked with calling plays on defense.

Weaver, the former Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach and defensive line coach, recently had some criticism about how Fangio was using Jalen Ramsey on defense.

“To have him sit outside and be a field corner or something like that, I think is a detriment and we got to find ways to move them around where he can be most impactful.”

Weaver also called the former Ramsey the “ultimate chess piece,” but that’s not how he was used last season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Ramsey played 484 of his 533 snaps at the right cornerback position.

Based on Weaver’s words, expect to see Ramsey return to either following an opponent’s best receiver or at least moving around more on defense instead of primarily locking down one side of the field.
