Florida QB Anthony Richardson to go much higher than expected in NFL Draft

Despite a stellar showing at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this offseason, Anthony Richardson’s stock has varied a great deal depending on who you ask.

Earlier in the NFL Draft process, some believed that he could go as high as No. 2 overall to the Houston Texans. More recently, the former Florida quarterback has seen his stock drop some. His floor now seems to be in the middle-to-late first round.

With the 2023 NFL Draft now set to get going in the matter of hours, we’re hearing a bit more on this and it’s rather surprising. According to NFL agent Brett Tessler, Richardson will go much higher than expected. “That’s not a guess,” Tessler added.

For the purpose of full disclosure, Tessler currently represents 12 players with seven different teams. He’s certainly in the know.

There is so much uncertainty after the No. 1 pick as the draft approaches. It’s almost a foregone conclusion that the Carolina Panthers will select former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young at one. After that, it’s pretty much anyone’s best guess.

Former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis has received late play to be the No. 2 pick of the Houston Texans. Though, it now seems like they are set to go with edge rusher Will Anderson. The Arizona Cardinals are listening to offers for the third pick. Perhaps, a quarterback-needy team looks to trade into that slot.

Let’s start with the Cardinals selecting at three. They have no need at quarterback with Kyler Murray holding things down. Hence, the trade rumors.

We’ve heard that the Las Vegas Raiders could very well make a move up for a quarterback. Though, that would likely be for Ohio State product C.J. Stroud. Other teams potentially looking to trade up to three include the Tennessee Titans (11th overall) and Houston Texans (12th overall).

A real wild card here are the Minnesota Vikings. Numerous reports have them entertaining the idea of moving all the way up from 23 into the top 10 for a quarterback. Anthony Richardson has been linked to the Vikings as a potential long-term replacement for incumbent Kirk Cousins.

If Tessler’s report is true, it looks like Anthony Richardson could jump Stroud as the second quarterback off the board behind Young. That would put him with an unnamed trade up partner for Arizona at three or with the Indianapolis Colts at four.
