Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the last five seasons. As the Chiefs’ head coach stands one win shy of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy once again, there are more rumblings regarding Reid’s future.

Kansas City hired Reid in 2013, first tasking him with helping turn the franchise into a perennial playoff contender. Following the arrival of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs turned into the NFL’s newest dynasty and are now on the doorstep of adding another championship to their resume.

However, there has also been rampant speculation regarding Reid’s future. Just a few months shy of turning 66, Reid has been coaching since 1982 and hasn’t taken a year off since graduating from BYU in 1980. He’s already guaranteed himself a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, fueling rumors that he could walk away after this season to clear the path for someone to follow in his footsteps.

In his latest Football Morning in America, Peter King of NBC Sports wrote that while he hears the rumors of Reid retiring at the end of Super Bowl LVIII, he believes the Chiefs’ head coach will return next season.

Ahead of the Chiefs’ Wild Card game against the Miami Dolphins, Reid was asked during a press conference about the possibility of stepping away from coaching.

“I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions. Because I’m old — but not that old.”

There has also been speculation, primarily from former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya that Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce could follow Reid into retirement after the Super Bowl. However, the future Hall of Famer has already indicated he’ll return for the 2024 season.

Reid and Kelce will be out there for Super Bowl LVIII, vying for Kansas City’s third Super Bowl ring with its legendary cast. With that said, Father Time is closing in on both all-time greats and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Reid and Kelce walked away next year. For the time being, though, the Chiefs’ dynasty will have two of its central figures for Super Bowl 58 and another season to follow.
