A growing number of NBA players are coming down with COVID-19 as the league prepares to resume its season late next month at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
We can now add another player to the growing list.
Sacramento Kings forward Jabari Parker announces he tested positive for COVID-19
“Several days ago I tested positive for COVID-19 and immediately self-isolated in Chicago which is where I remain. I am progressing in my recovery and feeling well,” Parker said, via NBA.com. “I look forward to joining my teammates in Orlando as we return to the court for the resumption of the NBA season.”
A former No. 2 overall pick of the Milwaukee Bucks, the 25-year-old Parker had suited up for just one game with Sacramento prior to the season being suspended back in March.
Parker and his Kings are one of 22 teams set to return to the season at Walt Disney World on July 30. They are currently 3.5 games out of the final seed in the Western Conference. Each team will play eight regular-season games before heading to the playoffs. If a team is within four games of the final playoff spot, a play-in tournament would take place.
Number of NBA players test positive for COVID-19
As the Association ramps up testing for the virus, we’re seeing an uptick in positive cases. The best-known player to test positive thus far is Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic.
Other players have opted out of returning to the season in Orlando, at least one of them citing health concerns.
Florida remains one of the epicenters of COVID-19 in the world with nearly 3,300 new cases on Tuesday.
It remains to be seen whether the increase in cases in some of the biggest regions in the United States will impact the NBA season resuming. It has been suspended since all the way back on March 11.
