NFL Draft: Packers set to replace Aaron Rodgers with this quarterback?

Aaron Rodgers Packers NFL Draft

It’s become more and more clear that the Green Bay Packers have an eye on the future heading into the 2020 NFL Draft next week.

Multiple reports have indicated that Green Bay will target a quarterback with its first-round pick. The strategy makes sense in that future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers is set to turn 37 late next season.

General manager Brian Gutekunst has been forward-thinking during his tenure in Green Bay. That won’t change come draft day.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, former Oklahoma and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts is a name to watch for the Packers.

Selecting 30th overall in the draft, Green Bay could have leaked this information as a way to entice teams in a trade up for Hurts. Late first-round selections are valuable in that they come with a fifth-year team option. That’s even more valuable when it comes to the quarterback position.

Though, there’s likely substance to this report. Hurts has been ascending the draft board over the past several weeks. He’s now seen as a potential late first-round pick.

Why not? The dude was absolutely brilliant in his only season under Lincoln Riley in Oklahoma after transferring from Alabama. Hurts compiled north of 5,000 total yards with 52 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Riley himself just recently sent out a cryptic Packers-related tweet that suggests Hurts could be in play for the team.

It’s certainly something to keep an eye on as the 2020 NFL Draft nears.
