After weighing his options earlier this week, five-time All-Star outfielder Adam Jones is set to sign with the Orix Buffaloes to play in Japan.
Jones made the announcement Tuesday night on Instagram, sharing a picture of his meeting with team officials and why he chose to sign with the Buffaloes after a lengthy career in MLB.
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Jones is signing a two-year deal worth $8 million that includes a club option for the ’22 season. If he hits incentives, Jones’ deal can max out at $15.5 million.
Jones struggled to find a market last offseason before he ultimately signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in March. During the 2019 season, he batted .260/.313/.414 with 16 home runs and 25 doubles.
If this is the end of his MLB career, he’ll finish with 1,939 hits, 282 home runs, 97 stolen bases and a .277/.317/.454 slash line. A five-time All-Star (’09, ’12-’15), Jones is a big name for the Nippon Professional Baseball league and will attract plenty of fans.
