The Brooklyn Nets are apparently going to shoot their shot this summer.
Already linked to at least one big-name free agent, this report from Chris Broussard of Fox Sports indicates that Brooklyn will look to trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis.
The interesting dynamic here is that Brooklyn would be willing to break up its talented young core.
Russell, 23, is set to become a restricted free agent in July after putting up an All-Star performance in 2018-19. The former top-five pick averaged 21.1 points and 7.0 rebounds on 37% shooting from distance.
Meanwhile, Allen averaged 10.9 points and 8.4 rebounds during his sophomore season.
It would take more than both of these players to acquire Davis. It’s in this that the Nets are lucky that they have two first-round picks (17th and 27th overall).
As it relates to the Pelicans, there’s a lot going on surrounding Davis.
- New general manager David Griffin is meeting with the All-Star in Southern California to try to patch things up.
- Davis himself is still looking for a trade even after New Orleans received the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.
- The Pelicans’ brass does not want to deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after what we saw leading up to the trade deadline.
- New Orleans might take less to move Davis out of the Western Conference. That’s where both the Nets and Celtics come into play.
