Report: Padres GM flew to Miami to meet with Manny Machado and his wife

The San Diego Padres have been making a strong push to land Manny Machado in recent days, and that includes a personal visit in Miami from general manager A.J. Preller.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports Preller flew out to Miami within the last week to meet with Machado and his wife, “a step that indicates the sides continue to work toward a possible agreement,” he wrote.

Clearly, San Diego is determined to land a big fish before the start of the 2019 MLB season — either Bryce Harper or Machado. Recently, it was reported that the team prefers Harper over Machado and believes Harper would be more marketable.

But at this point it’s clear they just want one of them.

Based on the rumors coming out of New York, the Padres better up their offer because it’s clear the Yankees are still in play.

Though, the most smoke continues to pour out of Chicago. Machado himself has put forth plenty of his own spin suggesting the White Sox are his choice.

But until he signs on the dotted line we can’t believe a thing.
