The Oakland Raiders and head coach Jon Gruden are certainly thinking outside the box in their search for a new general manager to replace the recently fired Reggie McKenzie.
According to multiple media outlets, Oakland has interviewed NFL Media’s Mike Mayock for its general manager opening.
A strong candidate has emerged in the #Raiders’ GM search: Mike Mayock. Sources tell me and @RapSheet the @nflnetwork draft analyst has interviewed with Oakland. He’s one of a few, as the Raiders have kept their interviews quiet. But he’s firmly in the mix.

A former defensive back for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, the 60-year-old Philadelphia native has absolutely no experience in an NFL front office. Though, Mayock is seen as one of the top NFL Draft evaluators in the media world.
This would certainly be an interesting hire for the Raiders. It remains to be seen just how much interest Mayock has in working with Gruden after what has been a horrible 2018 season in Oakland.
