Report: Raiders fire general manager Reggie McKenzie

In what can’t be considered too much of a surprise, the Oakland Raiders have reportedly fired general manager Reggie McKenzie after a disastrous 3-10 start to the season.

McKenzie found himself in a power struggle with head coach and de facto GM Jon Gruden. It was a power struggle the front office head never really had an opportunity to win after the Raiders signed Gruden to a 10-year contract last winter.

McKenzie took over as the Raiders’ general manager back in 2012. Among his biggest accomplishments was the acquisitions of Derek Carr, Khalil Mack and Gabe Jackson during the 2014 NFL Draft.

Since then, it’s been downhill for McKenzie and the Raiders. They earned a surprise playoff appearance in 2016 before falling off the map last season. Add in this year’s struggles, and the writing had been on the wall for some time.

Oakland boasted a horrible 39-70 record during McKenzie’s time as the team’s general manager.
