Report: Dirk Koetter ‘unlikely to be back’ with Bucs in 2019

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly unlikely to retain head coach Dirk Koetter beyond this season and are already investigating potential replacements, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

He reports the Bucs “have begun gathering information on potential head coaches and are making contingencies for a coaching search, with Dirk Koetter unlikely to be back next season, league sources said.”

Of course, this really isn’t all that surprising. Koetter has struggled to maintain control of his locker room and has failed at the one thing that got him the job in the first place. He was rumored to be on his way out after last season but ended up being retained with the hope he’d help Jameis Winston turn into a veritable star.

Winston has shown sparks of greatness, but in reality he’s still developmentally right where he was when he entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick a few years back. Meanwhile, Koetter has a record of 19-26 in nearly three seasons at the helm.

It’s time to move on.
