Jerry Jones has turned the Dallas Cowboys into an empire. The team he purchased for $150 million back in 1989 is now worth $5 billion, per Forbes, but the love affair between this owner and his team is so strong he says he wouldn’t even consider selling for $10 billion.
“If I had to sell the team tomorrow I wouldn’t accept anything less than $10 billion,” Jones told Bloomberg. “But, I don’t want to imply that I would take $10 billion for them. The Cowboys are just not for sale. They’re a long-term asset and my immediate family — which has been a part of making them what they are today– they’ll own the Cowboys long after I’m gone.”
Jones also added that, “economically I’d rather have the Cowboys than $10 billion.”
There’s no doubt that the ‘Boys are still a growing product. Back in 2015, the franchise was worth $4 billion. In just a few short years, that number jumped another billion.
So, as far as long-term investments go, it’s probably not hyperbole for Jones to say that the Cowboys are worth more to him now than $10 billion in the bank.
