According to report by Forbes magazine, the Dallas Cowboys are worth $4 billion. Not only does this make Jerry Jones’ pet project the most valuable NFL franchise, but it’s the most valuable sports franchise in the world.
This has not been the case since 2007, which was the last time Dallas was the king of the sports world.
According to the valuation done by Forbes, the Cowboys surpassed Real Madrid, currently valued at $3.26 billion. Next in the rankings are the New England Patriots and New York Yankees, both valued at $3.2 billion, followed by FC Barcelona, which is valued at $3.16 billion.
As far as NFL franchises rank in value, behind Dallas and New England, the Washington Redskins are the third most valuable league franchise worth $2.85 billion. This is followed by the New York Giants, which are worth $2.8 billion, and San Francisco 49ers, which are valued at $2.7 billion.
As for the Cowboys and how much profit owner Jerry Jones is basking in, he purchased the team in 1989 from H.R. Bright for $140 million. When inflation is factored in, the increase in value based on Forbes’ new valuation, is 1,382 percent.
Talk about a fabulous investment. How nice it would have been to have $140 million laying around in 1989 to buy a team now valued at $4 billion. We’re sure this excellent news reported by Forbes keeps Jones sleeping very well each night.
And, it doesn’t hurt that the Cowboys made an awesome comeback win with just seconds left in their season opener against the New York Giants, winning 27-26 on Sunday Night Football.
