Justin Verlander won’t pitch in All-Star Game

Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander won’t be able to pitch in the All-Star Game, even though he’s almost certainly going to be an All-Star.

Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Tuesday that he’s informed MLB that Verlander will be pitching in the team’s final game before the All-Star break and will therefore be unable to pitch in the annual event.

This, obviously, is standard issue stuff here. That being said, it’s pretty notable that Verlander, who’s been one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB this year, won’t be participating in the All-Star Game.

So far this season, the 2011 Cy Young Award winner and six-time All-Star has an ERA of 2.12, a WHIP of 0.86, 144 strikeouts and just 24 walks in 118.2 innings of work, culminating with a record of 9-4.
