John Dorsey peer on Baker Mayfield rumor: ‘I know that’s false’

Baker Mayfield

In the two days leading up to the 2018 NFL Draft, suddenly there’s a ton of buzz that John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns will select Baker Mayfield atop the draft. At least one of Dorsey’s peers, a fellow general manager who’s known Dorsey well, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, isn’t buying the rumors.

“I just talked to another GM who’s known John Dorsey well,” Rapoport said on NFL Network Thursday afternoon, “and he said, ‘he’s not taking Mayfield. I know that’s false.'”

Before the Mayfield rumors started spreading like wildfire, Josh Allen and Sam Darnold were the two players being reported as the two Cleveland was considering with the top pick.

We know that one of the people involved with the Browns, former San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan, loves Mayfield. He has him rated as the No. 1 quarterback in this year’s draft class. However, comments made by Dorsey himself seemed to indicate Mayfield isn’t the guy for him.

Welcome to lying season, everyone! Thankfully all the lies will soon be in the rear-view mirror as teams finally make their selections Thursday night.
