On Monday, news broke that Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle David Irving was being investigated by the Frisco Police Department over claims that he assaulted his girlfriend.
The accusations leveled against him were significant, including allegedly choking her (more on that here). Just hours later, Irving’s girlfriend has retracted her accusations, claiming she was just upset and that Irving never put his hands on her.

There’s a bit more to this story, too. Earlier on Monday, Irving’s own Twitter account said he had abused his girlfriend, among other things, in tweets that were later deleted. Irving has since come out with his side, saying his girlfriend hacked into his account. He also said she did the same type of thing when he went to Iowa State and that she was mad because he kicked her out for cheating, per the Dallas Morning News.
Irving has been with Dallas since coming out as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa State in 2015, making 10 starts, appearing in 35 games and tallying 11 sacks. Last season, he was suspended for PEDs, missing the team’s first four games.
