Report: Police in talks with Aldon Smith’s attorney to surrender after arrest warrant issued

Aldon Smith was involved in an alleged domestic violence incident with his fiancee over the weekend. On Monday the Oakland Raiders released him. Then later in the evening the San Francisco Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for him, per Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Sernoffsky also reports that the Special Victims Unit is in talks with Smith’s attorney for him to surrender.

Smith initially fled the scene of the alleged incident before the police arrived on the scene. On Sunday evening he was being pursued by police, and TMZ Sports reported he turned himself into rehab afterward.

The former NFL star has a long history of off-field issues and brushes with the law. Most recently, he cooperated with another domestic violence investigation back in February of 2017 and also was detained by police in March of 2017 after an incident with a police cruiser. Last September he reached a plea deal in a DUI case that saved him from serving jail time.
