The New Orleans Saints might be playing with fire when it comes to free agent quarterback Drew Brees, who is reportedly drawing interest for his services.
After failing to lock him up ahead of the tampering window Monday, the Saints could have competition for Brees’ services. Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network Monday that “There are definitely other teams interested” in Brees.

This is hardly surprising. No offense to Kirk Cousins, but Brees is the top free agent in this year’s class, if he has any interest in leaving the Saints. Now, it’s worth pointing out that he’s said in the past that he wants to finish out his career in New Orleans. But there are some other competitive teams with deeper pockets who could make a strong push for the 39-year-old gunslinger.
Whether one of those teams (cough! Broncos! cough!) can make a pitch that is enticing enough to lure Brees away from the Bayou remains to be seen. But this subplot is turning into a highlight that could rock the league’s landscape in the coming years, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
