Vegas favors Josh McDaniels to be Giants’ next head coach

The New York Giants are giving looks to defensive-minded coaches to replace the recently-fired Ben McAdoo as head coach.

Interim coach and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was the first candidate to receive an interview on Wednesday, and Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will get a look this weekend.

But the overriding belief in Jersey is that the Giants will look for an innovative offensive mind to replace McAdoo.

That’s where New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels comes into play. McDaniels, who has received the support of quarterback Tom Brady, will interview with the Giants on Friday.

It now looks like he might actually be favored to land the job. According to our friends over at My Top Sports Books, McDaniels is favored to land the job with 7-to-2 odds. He’s followed by the aforementioned Jim Schwartz with 4-to-1 odds.

This makes a whole lot of sense. Sure McDaniels’ first stint as a head coach didn’t go according to plan. But since he returned to the Patriots back in 2012, the longtime coordinator has shown growth in terms of maturity and continues to be the mastermind of one of the most successful offenses in recent NFL history.

Whether it’s with Eli Manning or a young quarterback under center, McDaniels would be a major get for the Giants at that position.
