Tom Brady on Josh McDaniels potentially leaving: ‘He’s an incredible coach’

For the second time in his career, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady faces the possibility of losing offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to a head coaching job. McDaniels has drawn interest from, among other teams, the New York Giants.

Should McDaniels ultimately decide to move on for greener pastures once again, it will surely leave a major hole for Brady and Co.

Despite this, the five-time Super Bowl winning quarterback is supportive of the idea.

“I haven’t spoken to Josh about that, but I can understand obviously why people would have those guys at the top of their list,” Brady said, via WEEI.  “Josh has done an incredible job. He’s an incredible coach and a great friend. This is that time of year where coaches get an opportunity. A lot of coaches got fired and that means other guys will get hired. You want to take the good ones. We have some great coaches and Josh has been such a great coach for me.”

That’s definitely a ringing endorsement right there. McDaniels returned to the Patriots as offensive coordinator back in 2012, and has since helped the team to two more Super Bowl championships.

He first departed New England back in 2008 to take the Denver Broncos’ head coaching job. But that didn’t go too swimmingly with him posting an 11-17 record in less than two full seasons.

Since then, McDaniels has shown a higher level of maturity and will be on the short list for the multiple head coaching vacancies in the league right now. Remember, it was just last year that he interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers’ job prior to eventually turning down a move to Northern California.
