Looks like a busy weekend for Patriots assistants

Josh McDaniels rule

The New England Patriots have a first-round bye in the NFL playoffs, but it’s anything but an off week for their coveted assistant coaches.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and linebackers coach Brian Flores all have interviews scheduled.

McDaniels and Patricia are both slated to meet with the New York Giants on Friday, while Patricia and Flores will talk to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. McDaniels, who already spoke to the Indianapolis Colts, will interview with the Chicago Bears on Friday.

Patricia will round out the busy stretch by meeting the Detroit Lions this weekend.

The too-long, didn’t-read version? Patriots assistants are in demand.

McDaniels is the only candidate with previous head-coaching experience. Though he mustered an 11-17 record during a brief run with the Denver Broncos, McDaniels is considered one of the premier offensive minds in the game.

Patricia and Flores have both coached under Bill Belichick since 2004, taking part in three Super Bowl victories. Patricia has overseen the defense for New England’s last two championships, and Flores has been the linebackers coach.
