Report: Eli Manning is the starting quarterback for Giants against Cowboys

Eli Manning

Eli Manning can begin a new streak on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, as he’ll once again be under center for the New York Giants as their starting quarterback.

Following up on a report that Manning was expected to be named the starter this week, Mike Garafolo notes the Giants finalized their game plan with Manning as the starter.

Manning made it clear in an interview on Monday that the past week had been very trying on him and that he wanted to start. The team’s co-owners were not pleased with the way former head coach Ben McAdoo unceremoniously handed the starting job to Geno Smith (of all people?), and it was hardly surprising that McAdoo was fired early Monday morning.

Manning’s old starts streak ended after his 210th consecutive start in Week 12. He had never missed a start in his career, and it’s a shame that streak had to be cut short the way it was. Thankfully it appears the Giants saw fit to restore his rightful place as the leader of New York’s offense, at least for one more week.
