Could Johnny Manziel truly be finished with his partying ways? Based on what he told TMZ Sports, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback just might be.
Manziel, engaged to Bre Tiesi, says he is solely focused on a return to the NFL and that he will not have a bachelor party before he and Tiesi say their vows. According to TMZ, Manziel and Tiesi don’t have a date yet but are looking at tying the knot sometime next year.
Though he still tends to log late hours, Manziel says he’s totally clean and sober these days.
“As we’ve been reporting for months … Johnny insists he’s a changed man and left his partying past behind to get himself back to being a world-class athlete,” TMZ reported. “We’ve seen Manziel out a lot lately, and he’s been in great spirits and always seems totally sober. Sources close to him tell us he’s focused on training every day … which he confirms with us.”
The former Browns passer had an invite to play for the new Spring League and has even had discussions with the CFL. But it appears he is determined to play at the NFL level or nothing at all.
A talented player coming out of Texas A&M, Manziel had the Browns — the team that drafted him in Round 1 — convinced he was going to turn into a top pro before the wheels fell off at the end of the 2015 season.
Time will tell if Manziel will get another chance at making an NFL roster. Given that the draft just concluded in the final weekend of April, if he does land on an NFL roster it likely wouldn’t happen until the summer when injuries take their toll and he’s had a bit more time of documented sobriety to show teams he’s truly serious.
