Free agent quarterback Johnny Manziel is trying to better his life. At least that is the most-recent news regarding his current status.
Now it would appear Manziel is trying to get back on to the gridiron in some capacity. He recently worked out with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, which is reportedly a violation of the CFL rules according to Justin Dunk of the Hamilton Spectator.
Per the report, Manziel worked with the Roughriders in Florida in January before the Senior Bowl took place. The problem is, Manziel has been on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ negotiation list since September of 2012. Saskatchewan reportedly did not have the permission to workout Manziel.
“The rules regarding the neglist are outlined in our by-laws. A team has exclusive rights to a player on their neglist,” according to a league official. “Therefore that player could not be contacted by, worked out by, or negotiate with another club unless consent is given.”
Per the report, the Roughriders president declined to comment on Manziel.
As for Manziel, he purely wants to play football and is reportedly sober.
“I love sports, I love football and when you take something away from yourself you realize it the hard way. The happiness from doing it sober has been ASTRONOMICAL. Beyond my wildest imagination and once that continued other good things started happening in my life and it just clicked,” Manziel said, via Ed Werder of ESPN.”
Instead of pictures of him partying, Manziel’s Instagram account as of late has been filled with content of him working out. That is a good thing.
It would seem Manziel is doing what he can to get back in the NFL. Perhaps that will happen some day providing he keeps clean and out of trouble.
As for the CFL violation, there is likely more news to follow from the Roughriders’ camp.
