Now that the Cleveland Browns have an additional second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, talk has heated up that the team might acquire New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The idea behind trading for Brock Osweiler on Thursday was to add as much draft capital as possible. Some have concluded this is an indication Cleveland intends to make a strong run at Garoppolo.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com tends to agree. Though, the Browns’ insider threw in a rather large curveball our way in her report.
“One league source close to the situation told cleveland.com the Browns’ No. 12 likely won’t get it done, and that the Patriots will want the Browns’ No. 1 overall pick this year,” Cabot reported.
That’s an absolutely insane asking price for a quarterback that has started a grand total of two regular season games in the NFL. But the Browns appear to be fixated on bringing Garoppolo into the mix. If that’s the case, we wouldn’t put anything past this front office.
Cleveland boasts the first and 12th overall picks in this year’s draft. It also has two second-round picks this year and three second-round selections in 2018. There’s definitely capital to get a deal done here. Though, that’s reliant on the Patriots lowering their absurd asking price.
