Report: Browns expected to release Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III

The surprise trade acquisition of quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns may very well leave Robert Griffin III the odd quarterback out.

Unless the Browns waive or wheel and deal Osweiler in yet another stunning trade move, they intend to let him compete for a job. Considering the Browns don’t need to pay big money for two backup-caliber quarterbacks on their roster, Griffin’s days should be numbered.

The RGIII experiment was anything but successful. He played in only five games for the Browns in 2016 and spent the rest of his time on IR.

Even if the Browns do rid themselves of Osweiler, they still have two first-round picks with which they could choose to select a quarterback next month. Also, there is the Browns’ ties to a potential trade for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo would be a major upgrade over the group of quarterbacks currently on the Cleveland roster if that trade were to come about.
