Report: Browns considering waiving Brock Osweiler after trade

Brock Osweiler

The Cleveland Browns stunned the NFL world when they traded for Brock Osweiler, acquiring a 2nd-round pick in exchange for the quarterback.

Now comes a bit of more stunning news, that Cleveland is weighing just dumping Osweiler and absorbing his $16 million salary, NBA style.

This is an interesting way to do business in the NFL that we really have never seen. However, it’s not all that stunning that it’s this Browns club doing the unconventional thing, given its analytical, Moneyball approach.

Osweiler is an absolute failure as a starting quarterback, or at least one who can win games anyway. He threw just 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions last year and absolutely threw a playoff win away against the New England Patriots. So it’s not surprising to hear the Browns don’t view him as a player they’d like to bring on board for the 2017 season.

We’ll be watching this closely to see what happens next. It sure looks, at this point, like the Browns just paid for a 2nd-round pick and are content to leave it at that.
