Odell Beckham Jr. cites himself as the reason Josh Norman is relevant

There’s no question that New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. thinks highly of himself. He’d have to in order to succeed at the level we have seen throughout the first two years of his career.

Though, most of us had no real idea Beckham Jr. was out here claiming credit for the fame of other star players around the NFL.

That’s exactly what the two-time Pro Bowl receiver did just recently when he decided to call out new Washington Redskins corner Josh Norman.

“It goes back to what I was saying. If I wasn’t playing him (Norman) twice a year, maybe people wouldn’t bring it up as much,” Beckham Jr. told GQ recently (h/t Pro Football Talk). “But now it’ll be a lot more media attention for him, attention that I don’t really look for, attention that I don’t need. The reason he’s become so relevant is because of me.”

This is simply a continuation of a feud we saw start last year when Norman, then a member of the Carolina Panthers, battled Beckham Jr. in what ended up being a flag-filled contest. In the end, the Giants’ star receiver found himself suspended one game for his actions.

Then, during the winter, Norman responded publicly by calling Beckham Jr. “crazy.” As if that weren’t enough, Norman doubled down by concluding that the Giants receiver was attempting to steal his bologna — whatever the heck that means.

Needless to say, there’s no love lost between these two elite-level performers. Though, one must wonder exactly what Beckham Jr. is talking about in his recent interview with GQ.

Norman was considered one of the top all-around defensive backs in the NFL before the two met last season. And in reality, the ugly scene was saw in that December game painted both in a bad light.

In terms of entertainment value, NFL fans couldn’t have asked for more than to see Norman end up with the Washington Redskins after Carolina rescinded its franchise tag offer to the Pro Bowler.

We now get to watch these two guys line up against one another at least twice this upcoming season. Get your popcorn ready, it’s going to be a blast. Let’s just hope last year’s ugliness doesn’t repeat itself.
