Josh Norman on Odell Beckham Jr.: ‘That man is crazy’

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The Week 15 bout between Carolina Panthers and New York Giants showcased Odell Beckham Jr. at his worst, constantly losing his temper and even attempting to spear Josh Norman.

According to Bart Hubbach of the New York Post, Norman still isn’t over it. While at the first of many Super Bowl media sessions, Norman said:

“Shoot, that man’s crazy. You all saw it. … I told Coach [Ron Rivera] to take me out of the game, man, because I couldn’t be in there with that.”

The easy reaction is, “Come on, Josh. Move on already.” But can you really blame a guy for being upset about someone taking a 10-yard run and intentionally trying to hurt him?

Blocking downfield is one thing. This was another.

It appears this rivalry will continue for a while, though it will largely remain in the shadows because the Panthers and Giants aren’t scheduled to meet until the 2018 regular season.

The only way a matchup comes sooner is in the playoffs or if both teams finish at the same standing in their respective division.

Granted — if you’re willing to stretch the definition — Norman and Beckham could square off in an eventual Pro Bowl, but you’d hope cooler heads would prevail during a meaningless exhibition showing.

New York’s star receiver certainly needs to work on controlling his temper, evidenced by repeated emotional letdowns in 2015. He had at least three unnecessary hits, including an unnecessary chip of Sergio Brown, swing at Duke Williams and the spear of Norman.

Beckham will probably figure out the balance between competitive and over-the-top emotional eventually, but don’t expect Norman to forgive and forget anytime soon.
