Report: Odell Beckham Jr. could play Monday night, ‘barring a setback’

The New York Giants have been playing coy about whether Odell Beckham Jr. will be available for Monday night’s game against the Detroit Lions. However, one report suggests he’ll be in the lineup, “barring a setback.”

This is quite contrary to the tone head coach Ben McAdoo set during his comments about OBJ Friday. It’s also a bit of a contrast to what Beckham Jr. himself had said earlier this week when he called his ankle injury a six-to-eight week issue.

The only thing we know for certain is that the Giants desperately need Beckham Jr. back in the lineup. Big Blue’s offense was singing the blues in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. Eli Manning was awful, and so was the offensive line. Worse still is free-agent pickup Brandon Marshall was almost invisible, catching one of the four passes that came his way.

Beckham Jr. has one extra day to get himself ready, as the Giants don’t play in Week 2 until Monday night. Even if he does suit up an play, it’s hard to imagine he’ll be able to be the same explosive player he’s been for the Giants the past three years, but anything’s possible.
