Yankees’ Luis Severino to be shut down for six weeks

The New York Yankees got word of MRI results surrounding ace starting pitcher Luis Severino on Tuesday. It’s not great.

According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, said MRI results showed that he has a grade two lat strain to his throwing shoulder. Severino will be shut down from throwing for six weeks.

This means that the earliest Severino could return to the bump in the Majors is mid-June. Talk about a major blow to a Yankees team that’s already dealing with myriad injuries.

Severino, 25, pitched to a 19-8 record with a 3.39 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while striking out 220 batters in 191.1 innings last season.
