Yankees All-Star Dellin Betances takes next step in return to the mound

The New York Yankees could soon get some reinforcements back for the stretch run of the regular season and the playoffs.

Stars Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Severino are nearing returns after being out for the long haul. We can now add four-time All-Star relief pitcher Dellin Betances to the mix.

The 31-year-old righty threw to live batters on Tuesday and could soon be in line for a rehab stint.

Betances has missed the entire 2019 season with a shoulder impingement. He suffered a LAT strain in rehab earlier this year, leading to a more extensive absence.

A return to action would be absolutely huge for the first-place Yankees. Betances has pitched to a combined 2.22 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over the past five seasons, earning four All-Star appearances in the process.
