Responding to the state of Washington banning gatherings of 250 people or less in certain areas due to coronavirus, the XFL announced Wednesday that Sunday’s game at CenturyLink Field between the Los Angeles Wildcats and Seattle Dragons will be contested without fans present.

The NBA also is being hit by a similar proclamation in San Francisco, which banned large gatherings of 1,000-plus people on Wednesday due to coronavirus concerns. As a result, the Golden State Warriors will host the Brooklyn Nets without fans present at Chase Center on Thursday.

The Seattle Mariners, who are being affected by the same proclamation as the Dragons, have discussed hosting MLB games in Arizona as a way to combat this situation.

Last week, news broke that a vendor who worked the last XFL game at CenturyLink Field has tested positive for coronavirus.

Likely, these are but the first of many dominoes to fall. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that COVID-19 is officially being categorized as a pandemic.
