On Saturday, the incomparable career of the GOAT, John Cena, came to an end at the latest edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Despite tens of thousands of upset fans inside the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, the man who preached “never give up” did just that when he tapped out to former World Heavyweight champ Gunther.
Following Cena’s retirement match, Fightful dropped several bits of notable news on the fallout from this weekend’s historic event. Including upcoming WWE appearances on screen by John Cena.
John Cena will return to WWE TV

In the lead-up to his retirement match, Cena revealed he signed a new multi-year deal to serve as a brand ambassador for the company. Many might assume that would be mostly off-screen and at events. However, the plan is for him to make future televised appearances.
“John Cena is expected to make future appearances for WWE, on screen and off. We aren’t sure to what extent the on-camera appearances will be,” the outlet claimed.
The majority of WWE creative approved of Cena losing

Fans in the arena and online were enraged that Cena did not win his final match. However, the decades-long tradition in professional wrestling has always been for a star to “do the honors” on the way out.
According to Fightful, some on the creative team were in favor of one final win. However, the majority felt the final decision was the right choice. Head of creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, reportedly had a big smile on his face at Gorilla from how the end played out.
Gunther required security to leave Capital One Arena

It seems that quite a few WWE fans took John Cena tapping out on Saturday very personally. Leading the company to escort Gunther safely out of the building. “The heat was so heavy on Gunther that he legitimately required to be escorted out of the venue. He was followed by a number of fans,” Fightful reports.
What’s next for Cody Rhodes and CM Punk?

Now, with John Cena’s retirement tour in the rear view, the company will look to begin building toward the 2026 Royal Rumble. WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight titlist CM Punk are guaranteed to have featured matchups at the mega event in Saudi Arabia.
Fightful reports Rhodes will be working with Drew McIntyre and Punk with Bronson Reed at upcoming live events. It’s not a guarantee, but it could be a major sign they will be feuding with those men in the weeks ahead.
