CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, and a couple of other AEW veterans offered up a shared message after Saturday Night’s Main Event to show they are doing just fine after leaving their former employer.
Saturday Night’s Main Event this weekend was an evening to remember for several former AEW talents. To open the card, reigning and defending WWE Undisputed champ and former AEW Vice President, Rhodes turned away the challenge of Drew McIntyre.
Following that match, Jade Cargill once again challenged WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton for her title. However, unlike their previous encounters, this new version of the former TBS Champion dominated an injured Stratton to win her first WWE singles title.
And in the evening’s headliner, former AEW Champion CM Punk got a chance to exercise the demons and regain the championship he lost in a matter of minutes at SummerSlam when hated rival Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase following a hard-fought win over Gunther.
On Saturday night, he was successful in his vacant Heavyweight title bout against Jey Uso and once again sits atop the WWE Raw mountaintop.
CM Punk and other AEW Vets send a clear message to old job
SNME was a special night for Punk, Rhodes, and Cargill, as the three former AEW stars showed they are doing pretty well for themselves after leaving WWE’s top rival. Well, the trio decided to celebrate that unique moment, and included another former AEW star who also now carries WWE gold.
Following Saturday Night’s Main Event, Punk, Rhodes, Cargill, and current NXT Champion Ricky Saints formed up like Voltron backstage and took a picture together that they shared on their socials. If the three stars who competed on Saturday got together it would not be that big a deal. However, for Saints to randomly be there, and with his belt, it sends a clear message.
The picture shows four AEW veterans who either chose to leave or were ousted due to their unhappiness there and have gone to the competition. Becoming some of the brand’s top talent. This illustrates that the grass can be greener on the other side.
