WNBA All-Star Angel Reese is inching closer to a league suspension after a recent blowout loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

The Chicago Sky forward put up 11 points and 11 rebounds in the losing cause, but there was a lesser-focused stat that is poised to cause her problems.

Reese earned her seventh technical foul in just 22 games so far this season. She leads the league in that category – by far.

The latest came during the first quarter in Minnesota after a foul by Lynx player Maria Kliundikova. The technical foul was assessed following Reese’s interaction with the referees.

Reese also drew a technical foul during the Sky’s season-opening contest against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. That one came during the infamous play in which Clark delivered a hard “basketball play” foul to her opponent, and Reese responded by physically going after the Rookie of the Year.

Angel Reese has a Problem

Getting yourself seven technical fouls this early in the season is certainly an indication of the style of play and trash talk Angel Reese likes to engage in.

However, it could cause a problem for both her and her team in the very near future.

According to WNBA rules, the league assesses automatic suspensions for excessive technical fouls. A player will receive a one-game ban upon receiving their eighth technical foul of the season.

The Sky, already sporting a dismal 7-16 record, can ill afford to lose their second-leading scorer, second-leading passer, and far and away best rebounder.

Reese and the Sky will take on the Seattle Storm in their next game on July 24th. Will she be able to keep the technicals in check all the way up until mid-September?

Becoming a Better Player

Angel Reese only had four technical fouls total last season. She’s nearly doubled that pace, and we’re only in July. Maybe she needs that aggressive edge, however.

Reese has significantly improved her performance in the 2025 WNBA season, boosting her field goal percentage to 44.8% and averaging 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds over the past four games. She is leading the league in rebounding and has 18 double-doubles.

While much of her young WNBA career has been marred by claims that she misses layups on purpose to collect extra rebounds – to the point where she actually had to file a patent for the word “mebounds” – Reese is clearly doing better in the shooting department.

Despite her growth, Reese struggles with turnovers, committing nine in that game against the Lynx, and her seven technical fouls put her at risk of suspension.
