WATCH: QB Tate Martell warms up with Hurricanes’ WRs before game

After transferring to the Miami Hurricanes then losing the starting quarterback job for to begin the season, quarterback Tate Martell now finds himself in an unexpected position minutes before kickoff against the Florida Gators on Saturday.

Martell warmed up with Miami’s wide receivers during the team’s pregame routine on Saturday evening and worked out of the slot position.

It could be an interesting strategy by first-year head coach Manny Diaz in an effort to get Martell’s speed on the field. He took reps inside the slot during Miami’s scrimmage in August and he certainly has shown the athleticism to play at a different position.

It will be interesting to see if Miami is just further experimenting with Martell at wide receiver in practice or if he’ll become a weapon in games. If Martell takes the field on Saturday, it will be interesting to see his timing and chemistry with Jarren Williams against Florida’s secondary.
