The Washington Redskins made what many would consider to be an interesting move on Friday by adding embattled former New Orleans Saints outside linebacker Junior Galette on a one-year deal at the league minimum.
Galette may be considered one of the top 3-4 outside linebackers in the game, but he brings a recent history of off-field issues that many figured would limit his options after the New Orleans Saints cut him loose last week.
Earlier this summer, a video was released showing Galette, 27, allegedly striking an unknown woman at a beach in Florida back in 2013. After an extensive investigation, the Saints released him—a move that cost the team a ton of cash considering it had just signed him to a four-year, $41.5 million extension last September.
Whatever the PR hit Washington might take by signing Galette, there’s little doubt that he is a force on the football field himself. The veteran has recorded 22 sacks over the past two seasons and will act as a solid pass-rush partner next to the recently-extended Ryan Kerrigan.
