Von Miller endorses Kirk Cousins to the Broncos

One of the hottest up and coming NFL free agents, Kirk Cousins celebrates during the Redskins-Seahawks game

Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins will be looking for a new city to call home after the Washington Redskins traded for fellow Pro Bowler Alex Smith on Tuesday evening.

To say that the market for Cousins’ services won’t be limited would be an understatement. As many as as half dozen teams could vie to sign the franchise signal caller, likely signifiying that he’ll become the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Among those expected to show interest, the Denver Broncos’ current quarterback situation is an absolute mess. It’s in this that former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller is full-throated in his support of the team signing Cousins.

“He knows exactly how I feel about Kirk Cousins and what he’d mean to our team,” Miller said on The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday. “And what he would mean to a lot of other teams. He’s the hot quarterback on the market right now. … Yeah, we need Kirk. We need Kirk. I’d like to have Kirk. We have great quarterbacks now. Kirk could take us over the edge.”

Denver’s trio of quarterbacks threw a combined 19 touchdowns compared to 22 interceptions for the last-place team in 2017. Needless to say, that’s not going to cut it moving forward.

For his part, Cousins has thrown for 13,176 yards with 81 touchdowns and 36 interceptions over the past three seasons. He’s going to be the best free agent quarterback to hit the market since the Broncos signed Peyton Manning back in 2012.

Flush with the fifth pick in the upcoming draft, some have suggested that the Broncos will look quarterback. Though, GM John Elway might want to avoid exhausting another first-round pick at that position after the disastrous selection of Paxton Lynch back in 2016. If so, Cousins makes a ton of sense for Denver.
